Hidden

If you read my blog titled “Soon”, you may remember
that I was blissfully living in denial about my eldest's graduation weekend.
You may be fascinated to know that it DID all come crashing down on me…
three days before the big weekend.
I woke up at 2am Wednesday morning and never got back to sleep.
I've been through this drill before but usually I crash into a little nap around 5:30am.
When it became apparent that the nap wouldn't happen, I had a bit of a mental breakdown.
We won’t go into the ugly details but
thank God for my husband’s loving embrace.
It got me through the school day, rush hour traffic, and wait for a delayed flight.
When I told my mom about my “mental breakdown” that night at dinner,
(she was the delayed flight I fought rush hour traffic for)
she said,
"Don’t you mean emotional breakdown?"
I just looked at my husband and said,
"No, I mean mental…
don't I?"
He kept his eyes on his dinner plate and nodded.
We all enjoyed a good giggle.
As rough as a day that was, the good news is we got through it!
We got our daughter graduated, celebrated, and recalibrated…
meaning… life is so much less stressful.
Until it won’t be.
She leaves us for college August 24th.
So I will be enjoying EVERY
walk around the block,
gorgeous mountain hike,
Starbucks run,
evening she’s home,
day of vacation,
basically,
EVERY
SINGLE
MINUTE
she’s still home.
Because it’s in those hidden moments with her that
joyful memories
will be made and cherished.
