Every year on November 1st, I place the two foot tall wooden turkey my mother-in-law gave me on our front porch step. I am ready for one of my favorite months of the year because my favorite holiday of the year lives in this month. It's Thanksgiving.
Sadly, as I drive around the neighborhoods at night, I see so many houses have skipped right over Thanksgiving and have Christmas lights already up. I know it's becoming more and more a debate and heated topic each year to "choose sides" and be a before or after Thanksgiving Christmas decorator. But can't we all be friends?
How about I won't judge you for decorating what I think is too early?
And you cut me some slack for waiting?
Neither one of us will probably change our minds, but in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter?
Is there some holy reward for converting someone to decorating earlier or later?
I sincerely doubt it.
So, how do we love each other through the mess? What if we could tie the two holidays together?
Thanksgiving is about gratitude - we can be thankful for our differences.
Team Christmas - find something about Thanksgiving to find joy in.
It's in our differences that we come together. Respect each others differences without trying to change one another. This whole season is a time for peace.
I hope you and your loved ones can find a way to come together regardless of when you decorate!
Maybe we can all laugh at the silliness of it all.
Dare I ask where you fall on this debate?
