Choose
It’s a very powerful word.
I’ve been teaching my elementary students about Power words this last month.
It’s part of the depth and complexity icon Language of the Discipline.
I even made a TPT lesson on it. See it here.
I read the book The Word Collector by Peter Reynolds 26 times.
Yes, there are a LOT of classrooms at my school.
The words we choose to use with each other can make or break a relationship.
Two of the power words we discussed are “I’m sorry.”
I share how lots of kids (and adults) are afraid to use these words.
They think they are weak. But I see it differently (and so does Peter Reynolds.)
“I’m sorry,” says that you are putting the relationship over the incident.
It’s saying the person hurting means more to you than being right.
It’s laying down the competitiveness and saying, “You matter.”
(Two more of the power words we discussed.)
Two more power words, “I understand.”
It might be difficult to say I’m sorry, but it will also be powerful.
So what words will you choose to say today?
I offer advice from the Character Club theme song:
”Speak life.”
